I would much rather teach in a classroom that had more digital technologies. Every technology mentioned in Chapter 6 made some kind of task easier. Being a math teacher I believe that the most useful technology mentioned in the chapter would be the electronic whiteboard. I think this technology would be very nice to have because it could save how we worked a problem out on the board. Many times in math classes the teacher runs out of board space and must erase things that could be important. With an electronic whiteboard the previous problem could be saved and then could be looked at again on the computer. It would also be a good way to have the notes that were written on the board available to students who missed that class. The data projection would also be useful because it would allow me to project visual aids, such as graphing aids, so that the entire class could view them. There are many good mathematical tools on the internet and a data projector allows them to be shared with the entire class.
A traditional audio technology that I could use in my classroom would be the oral journals. I could have my students keep oral journals of how well they understand a math topic. This way they can see how much they have progressed over the course of the chapter. An emerging audio technology that I could use in my classroom is internet radio. I could use internet radio as an incentive for either good behavior or good grades as a group. If the entire class did well we could listen to internet radio for a short time. One traditional visual technology that I could use in my class room is an overhead projector. One of these is a cheap way to be able to hand write something but have the entire class be able to see it. Overheads are a great way to show kids how to set up a problem. One emerging technology that would also be great to have would be a document camera. It would be nice for the same reasons an overhead is but a document camera has more abilities. An example of this would be if a student has an interesting way she did a problem, then she could bring it up and place it under the document camera so that the rest of the class could see how she did it. This would not be possible on an overhead because a transparency must be used.
